Akumal is a small town between Playa del Carmen and Tulum on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. In the heart of the Riviera Maya, 37 km from Playa del Carmen and about 90 minutes south of Cancun. The beaches may be beautiful, but everything here is geared to extracting money from tourists; it's US$6 per person just to access the beach.
