Las Coloradas is a small fishing town in the state of Yucatán but with a great legacy that continues to this day, typical Mayan salt production since ancient times.
The town is inside the Rio Lagartos nature reserve, where you can find a wonderful lagoon with a variety of special birds.
As in large parts of the Yucatán state, you can see a variety of local species such as pelicans and flamingos.
This little known part of the Yucatan has amazing scenic views.
A huge salt factory and amazing pink lagoons gave the town its name.
Las Coloradas is the most stable commercial point of the state of Yucatan, constant production and distribution of salt.
Unlike other tourist activities in the state of Yucatan, this site is different. Driving the deserted roads, miles of empty beaches is the perfect escape to nature.
Along the way you will find beaches with pristine white sand, waterways and kilometers of dunes.
The second stop is the salt factory. You can’t miss it from the road, it is surrounded by mountains of salt and glistens in the sun.
At the end, you cannot return without a picture of the pink lagoons, where there is also an area of white mud that you can apply.
The amazing pink hue of the water, produced by microscopic algae makes a wonderful contrast with the landscape.
